Do You Need Milk For Good Ice Cream?

Healthy Ice Cream and News
17 Nov 2008 American federal labeling standards require ice cream to contain a minimum of 10% milk fat (about 7 grams (g) of fat per 1/2 cup [120 mL] serving) and 20% total milk solids by weight (Thank you Wikipedia). So can you replace the milk in your ice cream recipe with something else and have it still taste good?  YES! J. Scott Wilson wrote this great piece comparing non milk ice creams on the Life While blog. However, those who are lactose ... {Tags: , } {More...}

I Like Beans in My Ice Cream

News
11 Jul 2008 Yes, I know I like weird things, but seriously, Mung Bean Shakes are delicious!  I'm not alone in this sentiment either:  Green Bean Shake Love Story. Last night we ate dinner at the Vietnamese restaurant in town again.  I wanted another Red Bean shake, but they were out and suggested I have mung bean instead.  I said yes and I wasn't disappointed.  While not as flavorful (to me, anyhow) as the red bean shake, which I think has a slight chocolate taste, the mung bean shake was pretty similar.  Next time I think I'm going to go for the avocado ... {Tags: , , } {More...}

Great Way To Store Your Homemade Ice Cream

Great Products and News
02 Jul 2008 Making homemade ice cream is always so much fun.  For those times when you make more than you can immediately eat, or when you want to make some to give to a friend or family member, I've found the best storage container around! It's made by Sweet Bliss and it holds an entire quart of ice cream.  The lid even has a spot for you to write in the date and flavor or other message.  Right now they only come in two styles: pastel stripes and wooden barrel.  They are made of heavy paperboard so they are pretty sturdy (a little ... {Tags: , } {More...}
