Growing up I always enjoyed spending time camping with my family -- swimming, hiking, cooking over the campfire. It was always a wonderful time. Our coolers, of course, were filled to the brim with ice to keep everything cool. At the end of the trip, though, we always ended up having to dump all that ice out. Had I known you could make ice cream while camping, I would have suggested it to my parents so we could put that ice to good use (and so I could eat more ice cream)!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The man who helped build the 31-flavor craze at ice cream store Baskin-Robbins has died at age 90.
Irvine Robbins died Monday at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Daughter Marsha Veit says he had been in ill for some time.
Generations of kids trooped to Baskin-Robbins stores to buy ice cream flavors like Pralines 'n Cream, Daiquiri Ice and Pink Bubblegum.
Robbins opened his first ice cream store in Glendale, Calif., in December 1945, following his discharge from the Army.

You know summer is fast approaching when you hear the melodious sound of the ice cream truck sauntering ever so slowly through unsuspecting neighborhoods exactly around supper time. As a child, the ice cream truck instilled both horror and uncontrollable excitement on my being as the haunting music played in the distance like the Pied-Piper! AAA has reported that the average gas price is now at $3.50/gallon. Ouch.
Instead of driving to the local ice cream shoppe or grocery store, why not make your ice cream at home with ingredients you most likely picked up during your regular shopping trip?
-Sugar (or sugar substitute)
-Vanilla
-Half and half (or milk or cream)
It is really simple to make ice cream at home, so when you run out you can just whip up another batch without leaving the house!

Edy's is continuing their trend of making some dough off the popularity of American Idol. You can vote for one of the flavors to be the newest American Idol.
Personally, the Mint Karaoke Cookie and Cheesecake Diva look yummy to me... however, I know they'll be packed with preservatives and fat and calories, oh my.
Martha Stewart has a yummy mint chocolate chip gelato recipe on her site.
Makes about 1 quart
2 1/2 cups whole milk
14 sprigs fresh mint
5 large egg yolks
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
